FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.
« The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening last. Present — Crs Lethbridge (in the chair) Higgin, . Lewers, Goodbehere, Sherwill, Thompson and Loudon. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The newly elected Councillor, Mr H. Worsfold, made the usual declaration and took his seat at the Council table. COIIBESPONDENCE. From Mr Haybittle, for permission to erect posts opposite his shop door for the purpose of tying up horses. From Mr G. W. Fowles to the same effect. From Mr Crichton, re covering the drain opposite his store. v v BEPOBTS. The following report was sent in by the Inspector of Nuisances : — Would recommend that the pool of stagnant water on Gichard's property be filled up with earth. That the nuisance in the old creek bed near .Rutherford's . be removed by raising the bed of tho creek, and the water carried off by tho Manchester-street culvert. That tha pool of stagnant water in the old watercourse near S. J. Thompson's could be filled up with 30 loads of earth. That the stagnant water and decayed vegetation in the blind creek which crosses Denbigh-street near Berry's residence should receive prompt attention. The following report was sent in by the Public Works Committee : — Your committee upon seeing the damage done to Kimbolton-road by the action of the Kiwitea Stream, did not deem ib advisable to attempt any temporary repairs, and are of opinion that a " wing dam " constituted of piles or fascines and thrown across the outlet caused by the late flood would most effectually secure the road against further encroachment. Bat as the proposed work would entail considerable expense the committee recommend that Mr Hill- be instructed to furnish a report stating the character and probable cost of such work. J. M. Higgin, Chairman. Resolved — On the motion of Cr Higgin seconded by Cr Goodbehere, that Messrs Haybittle's and Fowles' requests be granted. Eesolved — On the motion of Cr Higgin seconded by Cr Thompson, that the letter of Mr Crichton be referred to the Public Works Committee, to report at next meeting. Resolved — On the motion of Cr Higgin seconded by Cr Sherwill, that the report of the Inspector of Nuisances be referred to the Public Works Committee to report at next meeting. Resolved — On the motion of Cr Higgin seconded by Cr Lethbridge, that the report of the Public Works Committee be received and adopted. Cr Thompson suggested that the . Council should take some steps to make revenue out of the great quantity of grass now growing on the sides of the roads. Resolved — On the motion of Cr Lewers seconded by Cr Higgin, that the Town - Clerk be instructed to write to the District Railway Manager, requesting that the flax and toi toi be removed from the Railway Reserve. ' Resolved — On the motion of Cr Sherwill, seconded by Cr Loudon, that the Clerk be instructed to procure the Acts of the last General Assembly for the use of the Council. The Council then adjourned.
