The growth and offspring of the cesspool, ire was reared amidst every physical and moi-al contamination ; continually fattening on the rottenness of obscenity, slander and foul-mouthed calumny were to him tlie breath of life ; within his ignominious skin no generous pulse ever beat, but his venomous heart leaped withjoy, and gloated over ihe prospect of stabbing with his foul and pestilent tongue ihe weak and defenceless. 'Ihe four legged brute was surely hateful enough, but the twoi legged monster in human form culled for a deeper and more inveterate detestation.
