DEATH OF BLAIR ATHOL.
" A late English paper says — One of the most popular Derby and St.Leger r winners died a short "time since at the Pound Stud, Cohham. To all appearances the hor^e was well enough when sent out for gentle exercise, but on her returning was sweating profusely, and after seventeen hours' illness, died of inflammation of the lungs. Blair Athol was the last of the Stockwelfs, out of the famous t mare Blink Bonny, winner of the I Derfiy in 1857, and himself won the ■ Derby and Leg-er in 1864, beating the ; be-=t field in the former race ever [ known, H> only raced four times, being beaten in the Grind Priz-^ ot I'iiris and Grea.' Yorkshire Stakes, then Blair Atliol has been at the stud, and when sold fetched the hi hest pric. 1 ever kno vn for a stud horse — 12,500 guineas.
