A resident of Papanui sent £2 over to Melbourne, and drew The Assyrian and Stockwell in a £2000 sweep. Invercargill, This Day. Georgo Brown, farmer, was killed by a fall from a dray throngh the horse stumbling. Dunedin, This Day. In the Ada Manutua Consultation for £7000 on the Cup, the prize goes to a member of the Armed Constabulary at Pungarehu, the second to Timaru, and the third to Weston, near Oamaru. Over £2,000 passed through the totalisator here in connection with t .c Cup. One winner paid a dividend of £122. The first prize in one large sweep goes to Dunedin, the second to limaru. Wellington, This Day. An ex policeman named Lawrie, now a fishmonger, had a fight recently with James Rigby, who was connected with Woo ;year's circus. Rigby had one eye gauged out, but replaced, and the top of one finger bitten off. Lawrie was so knocked about as to require medical aid, and was unable to appear in the Police Court to-day to answer a charge of assaulting Rigby. The case was remanded. Dr Gillon, on leaving the hospital, of which he lias been resident surgeon for upwards of three and a half years, was presented with a complimentary address by the patients. The first section of the Manawatu Railway reclamation at Pipitea was commenced yesterday. Alexandra, This D y. Tawhaio and Te Whiora came in to see Bryce this mornin/, and are now with him. It is uncertain whether *here will be any meeting till to-morrow.
