BRIGHT PROSPECTS.
I Wk are pleased to notice that the Presi- : dent ot'MJie Christchurch Chamber of Commerce is hopeful of a brilliant future for New Zealand. He stated, in his last address to the body over whom he has the honor to preside, that this is the iir t j year since the inauguration of the great ; Public AVorks policy of 1870 in which i the exports of the colony have exceeded j the imports, and that to the amount of I £-2:0,000. As the bad limes receded, ; progres.-iou has increased. The exports for ISSO have exceeded those of 1h79 by upwards of £000,000, a considerable sum for assistance against the indebtedness of the colony. This would have the effect of cheapening money, which was as beneficial iv sending the country ahead as cheap labor. Large sums of money I were now awaiting investment in other parts of the world, and New Zealand was I now becoming a most favorable field for investment and settlement.
