AMENDMENT OF THE DOG REGISTRATION ACT.
Tnis amendment provides that the local authorities may, by notification in a newspaper circulating in the district, appoint the fee for registration of any dog witlun such district to be any sum not exceeding 10s, and not less than 2s 6d, as the said local authorities may thiuk fit. Provided that when dogs are kept for the sole purpose of the management of live stock, or for the destruction of rabbits, it shall be lawful to reduce the fee for registration of any such dog to a sum not less than one shilling. Persons claiming to register any dog at the reduced fee must sign a declaration to the effect that the dog is cm; loyed either in the management of cattle or rabbit hunting. For making a false declaration the penalty to be a fine not exceeding twenty pounds, or imprisonment for any period not exceeding one month. It is also provided that any unregistered dog may be seized and held by the police, or other proper person, and if not claimed and the expenses of the dog's keep paid by the owner within seven days, may be sold to any person, and the proceeds of such sale shall be paid into the funds of the local authority. Whenever a dog is duly registered under the Act, the owner may affix the registration label obtained from the registration office on any dog collar other than the one obtained from the said office.
