THE RANGITIKEI ADVOCATED.

I The Advocate of the 9th instant acknow- ! ledges our courteous sub-leader of the ! 7th instant in a manner that we scarcely ' expected, although we are nof surprised at the peculiar tone that pervades it, knowing as we do the source from which it emanates. We again express our regret that the Advocate should so far forget itself, as to descend to positive vulgarity in its iv guoque style of attack on the Feilding Star — a style that we must positively decline to imitate under any circumstances whatever. We can only hope that the Advocate will accept a friendly warning from us, and make an effort to stay its course on the downward path. None could be more anxious than we are to see its proprietor successfully attempt to regain the position his formerly well-conducted journal has in part lost in the estimation of the reading public. It may be deemed presumption in us to advise so experienced anci practical a journalist, yet at the risk of reproof, knowing we are actuated by the most liberal feelings towards that- gentleman, we would suggest that h.} select -ome defined principles and ci; re fully maintain them, and that he give his cdiLorial stall permanent leave of absence

without salary, if he is prevented from feelings of delicacy from dismissing it. Py these means, and with the assistance of our friendly counsel, which we will always be glad to place at his disposal, we hope again to welcome him into the ranks of respectable and honorable journalism.
