(by telegraph.) London, August 23. The August-September series of wool sales, commenced to-day. The opening catalogues comprised 6800 bales, for which fair competition was experienced. Faulty scouTeds were rather neglected. Good Qualities are worth about the same as at the close of last sales. For crosrbreds and for inferior and faulty wools of all descriptions prices are barely maintained. Later. The wool snles were opened to-day. 'I he balance • f the mediums wools held over from the last sales were catalogued. There was a full attendance of Home and Foreign buyers, and the bidding was keen. All good wools realised the arerage of last sales. The quantity available was 360,000 bales. New Zealand securities remain at last quotations. Adelaide wheat has declined 6d, and is now worth 48s 6d. New Zealand wheat has fallen Is to : 475.
