Tn a skirmish which took place near Port Said hot ween some l^-yplinns and a body of British sailors, Commander 11. C- Kane, of H.M.S. Northumberland, who was in cv niand of the landing party, was slightly wounded. Port Said, Kautara, and Ismali.a are now occupied by detachments of sailors and marines from the fleet. The Egyptian position at Nefich was taken during the" recent engagement, and is riow held by a British force. Tli<- Suez Canal is guarded By British gunboats, in order to prevent any attack upon t c canal or upon passing ships by Arabs. ~ ''" ' The troopships winch arrived at Poit last- -night have now efttorod 'tWe canal, it is believed, with the object of landing at. Ismalia, whence, they will march upon Cairo. The stoppage of ti-affic in the ,qanal by thciorder of Sir Garnet Wolseley, was adopted as ,a temporary prepjiutiop, pending ithe passage of the fleet past Aboukir forts, without attack being made.
