THE MANCHESTER HIGHWAY BOARD.
-■' i \ ■ ~. — : — •— : , This local body is composed of members who are, individually, gentlemanly and considerate, but collectively they do not • appear to take much thought of the ■ interests'of the people they have undtrtaken to represent on the Highway , Board. A complaint has %e<.n made that i a deputation from Waituna waited on - the Board on Saturday, for which day a ' meeting was called. As is too often the cu.se, there, was no quorum, and the meeting lapsed, so that the deputation had to wend its way homeward over many miles of bad raids, the object of their mission remaining unfulßlied. We are perfectly aware that the members are not expected to devote their whole time and energies to the service oL-ttie Board, yet it would . be a very easy matter for any one of i them 1o write to the Chairman a day. or two before the date of the meeting, ex- , plaining the cause of his absence. This would prevent any feeling getting abroad that the members of the Board cared only for the position, "but shirked the : duties they had undertaken to perform. -
