July 13. Professor Black's Crichton estate, near Mataura River, has been .old to Mr ; William Jenkins for £5685. it contains | 2573 acres, with a few buildings, and i 1500 acres have been in cultivation i about three years. At Balclutha to-day the man Hewitt, who stuck up the constable who was removing his cattle, was fined £5 or one month's imprisonment for pointing a loaded gun at the constable. The Refrigerating Company's works at Bnrnside are now finished. The reservoir has to be constructed, which is expected to be done in a fortnight, and then a start will be made to prepare the shipment for the steamer expected in September. July 13. The late Sir Donald McLe m left a request for the benefit of Native children attending school in both islands, in he shape of two senior and one junior scholarships, of £35 per annum, tenable for three years. The two senior scholarships have been won by boys at the Otago Kaik School.
