July 3. The Government lias applied to the Supremo Court for an injunction to restrain fhe promoters of the Channel Tunnel scheme from proceeding further with the work of construction. The homeward Australian and New Zealand mails via San Francisco, which left Auckland on the 33rd May, were delivered here on the 30th June. July 4. lhe Government have decided that the mobilization of the army reserce shall at once be proceeded with, in view of the possibility of that force being requir d to fill the place of regular troops which may be despatched to Egypt. It has transpired that since the recent visit of the Prince of Wales to Bradfor I, dvnamite was found to be concealed in some of tlie bridges over which* the Royal train passed. It is believed that the discovery reveals tne existence of a plot to take the Prince's life. The sculling match between Laycock and Boyd, for £200 a side, was rowed on the Tees to-dav, and was won by Laycock by five lengths. Half the cargo of frozen meat ex Cuzeo has been sold. The carcases are not in first class order, an examination having proved that ten per cent of them are aee ted by mildew.
