Although this office has been in existence for a period of more than seven years, it is believed that tliF objects for which it was established are not sufficiently known or understood. It is desired to set forth in r concise fi»rm information respecting the business which this office undertakes :— 1. The cha^pe of all kinds of money trusts, such as Marriage Sfcv-ltments, money to be invested for the. benefit of Minors, money bequeathed for charitable objects, moneys the title to which is in dispute, or whose legal owners is unknown or cannot be found, etc., etc. 2. 'Ihe administration of the wills of persons who by ncpointinj^ the Pub lie Trustee as their executor secure the guarantee of the. State for the ful« til meat of their wishes, and avoid the risk consequent ou the appointment ol private persons as executors, who not unfreqiientlv, though earnestly desir ♦Ms of acting for the benefit ot parties interested, fail to carry out legally the objects for which they were appointed and consequently involve themselves and those whose interests they ar striving 1 to protect in costly and harrassing' litigation. 3. The administration of all estaees ot which no disposition has been made by will, whenever relatives do not wish to incur the responsibility of ad ministration, or cannot from any canst! obtain the necessary powers to act. In such cases it is the duty oi the Public Trustee to discharge all lega! debts so far as the assets extenJ, ' and divide the residue amongst the next of kin. 4. The administration of the estates of lunatics, lunatic patients, and convicts. 5.- The charge of all lands lyingwaste and unoccupied of which' the owner is unknown, or who has been absent from the colony for ten yearshaving left no known ugvnt.
