A tradesman in New Plymouth on Tuesday last was imposed on 'Wtjlie extent of a .pound, by. a young girl: about , fourteen years of age entering his shop and asking changefor a : one-pound note, which request was duly complied' with ; but on examining the note the Ira esman thought it looked rather strange. He accordingly called the gir into the shop agaiok a* she i had meanwlile gone out, and was looking through the Window. In answer to the questions sha safd the note wits a good one, that her name was Bessie Tibbs, and that die rWided/Fat Wtffatv.; > Ml of whidh, so far, tutnsout to be false. At any rate, the note is a forced one, and the girl cWnotjJe found by the police, who have th£ Watter in hand..; ; The ftwgery is. idfcscnbed as being very badly executed. Indeed, it lias all ! bpeen done in' .pencil;} aijd/ cqi|ldj not possibly'deceive anyone, except'by an artificial light, for on clo,s.e examination it can be readily perceived that ft isf merely a tracing of fine paper gummed, to another more substantial paper. The note: is intended to represent a Bank of Jfew South Wales one, No. 49^04.' They are not all so very cute in New Plymouth as they would like us to believe.
