SHOCKING FATAL ACCIDENT AT HALCOMBE.

THE INQUEST. A coronial inquiry was held at Child* Halcombo Hotel yesterday, before tlte District Coroner and a jury, touching th* death of David Sanson. Charles Coyle deposed that he was working about two chains distant from deceased on Wednesday last. He heard a tree fall, and deceased called out "Look out." Sanson's mate, Whitlock, ,called out, " Where are you." As he received no answer, he calledlout to me to come. I found deceased knocked down by the tree. He was in a stooping position, with his head on the ground. The tree was not touching his body. He wa» unconscious. Witness went to Halcombe and telegraphed for Dr Johnston. It was about 7 o'clock when the accident happened. He saw a large wound on deceased's head about 3 inches long, which was bleeding. George Whitlock deposed that he was working with deceased on Mr Bell's property, felling bush. Deceased was working in front of the trees. Witness was chopping. Witness's tree was intended to fall on th entrees he had bean scarfing. When the*tree began to fall he went away in an opposite-' direction from deceased. After the t?ee was down iie called for deceased. When witness looked for deceased he found him inj ured, and sent Coyle fora doctoiif^ Dr Johnston deposed th^t he attended deceased. On examining* his head he found a lacerated wound extending across the skull between the crown and back of th« head. He dressed it arid deceased was breathing heavily.
