FRIESIAN CATTLE.
THE NEW ZEALAND EXECUTIVE. •- MEETING IN WELLINGTON. A meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Friesian Association was held at Wellington last, week. There Were present: Messrs W. D. Hunt, W r . E. A. Gill, D. Dickie, and J. P. Kalaugher (secretary). It was decided to authorise, the affixing of the association’s ; seal to the lease of the new 7 office in Aitken Street. The secretary was instructed to pre j pare a list showing the names of those paying for export certificates in the past. ... -• A resolution forwarded from the South Auckland branch suggested that an • estimate of the ..cost of transit of animals for exhibition at the Royal Show' at Christchurch should be obtained, and that the council should be asked for a contribution towards the cost of transport. It was. decided that the committee should rely on their local breeders for assistance. • The secretary of the Holstein-Fries-ian. Association of the United Stales wrote forwarding a pair of large pictures of the true type animals as a gift to the New Zealand association. It was decided to order statues "of <-true type Friesians., . ... The British Friesian Association intimated that the matter of importation to Britain of pedigree Friesians had been carefully considered by the society, and it was considered inadvisable" to allow promiscuous importation by individuals or syndicates'. In future the society will refuse to accept in its herd-book the entry of any Friesian animal that is not. imported'with the consent of the society.
A discussion took place on the best methods of selection of animals for the provincial Friesian groups for the Royal Show at Christchurch in November. If was decided to suggest that a team of seven should be selected in each province, but that the right should be reserved to make any changes at the show in the composition of the team if it was deemed necessary. It was decided to forward the suggestions to the various branch associations, and to write to the Wellington provincial branch association, suggesting that a selection committee should be appointed io pick the provincial team. It was suggested that these judges should visit the various breeders’ farms and invito all breeders and the public lo attend the judging demonstrations.
In regard to the Wellington Winter Show', il was decided to arrange for an exhibition of . photographs and placards. and also for the distribution of Friesian literature during the show' period. If was decided to hold the annual meeting of the association at Auckland on August 2T>. The secretary read an extract from file South African Friesian journal Anting that legislation had lately been Massed in England permitting the importation into England of pedigree Friesian animals. The secretary was instructed to make full inquiries from jh- South African Friesian and British Friesian Associations, and to report, to iba council as soon as replies were removed.
