PAPAKURA.
TOWN BOARD MEETING. The Papakura Town Board held an ordinary meeting on January Bth in the Board’s office. Present : Messrs D. Weir (in the chair), W. Rhine!, C. M. Young, S. Evans, J. Walker, and Rev. W. C. Wood. The minutes of the last ordinary meeting were confirmed. Messrs Nichol ancl Jones wrote requesting permission to dig for gum on Smeed’s Road, undertaking to refill holes ancl pay 20 per cent, to the Board for ail gum taken. —Permission granted.K Mr West waited upon the Board and urged that the drain in front of his house be filled in. The Board expressed its sense of the unsatisfactory state of the drain from Mr West’s point of view, bull, decided that in view of the difficulties in sight itt could not change its; previous decision, viz that if the owner of the property would pay for the necessary pipes the Board would do the work. The Department of Lands wrote drawing the attention of the Board that they were still waiting.for the naming of the park.—lt was eventually decided to call the park “Prince Edward Park.” )The Health Officer wrote drawing the Board’s attention to the fact ’Mat the requirements of the “(Health Act were not complied with by the builder of the block of shops being built Tor Mr W. K. Francis, which to be given to the owner to comply. Mr J. E. Rea wrote complaining- of the condition of, the footway to his house. The matter to be attended to when the Board- considers the state of the footpaths in the township.—Surfaceman to report. The Auckland Mounted Rifles’ Band wrote asking permission to play on the railway reserve on Sunday, January 2.lst. —Leave granted. A letter was received from the Dairy confirming the arrangement arrived at between 1 the Board and representatives of . the company re drainage from the casein factory. The letter was received, subject to the deletion of clause 2, which implied that the source of the trouble was confined to the length of the drain from the Main South Road to the outlet. This the Board could not admit. It was also decided that the owners of properties through which the drain runs Reordered to cleanj out the same at once. Papakura Flag Station. —A 1 letter was received from the clerk of the Manukau County Council supporting strongly the application to the Railway Department for a stopping place between Takanini and Papakura. —On the motion of the (Rev. Wood a c opy of the letter was ordered to be sent to the committee having charge of the matter. The report of the waterworks foreman was received. The action of the Rev. W. C. Wood in having a stand pipe placed at Young’s Beach, in order to, supply water, was endorsed on the motion of the chairman. Plans and estimates were secured from Messrs Gannon and Worley for work on the south end of Stock Road. They were referred to the Works Committee. Appointment of Working Foreman. —lt was decided that applications be invited (in the Franklin limes, New Zealand Herald and the Auckland Star, two insertions in each paper) for the position of workingforeman for the township of Papakura* the position to include those of turncock, sanitary inspector, noxious weeds inspector, and building inspector at a salary of £5 per week. It was decided to have the applications before the Board at the first meeting in February.—Carried. The chairman moved, seconded by Mr- Young,, that J a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Rev. Wood for the trouble taken in drawing up the schedule of duties. —Carried. .Mr McFarlane was appointed collector of the dog tax at a royalty of one shilling per, collar. The fees were fixed at 2s 6d for cattle, sheep dogs and terriers, and 7s 6d for, all other breeds. L The kerbing in front of the Premier ’ Buildings was reported to need some attention, and it was decided that it be raised and otherwise improved when needed. Sufficient McCallum shingle is to be ordered to- blind the metal, on the South Road, also to patch the Settlement (Road, where slight depressions are showing. Accounts covering the general account, water loan and road loan expenditure were passed for payment as follows : —Road loan £72 18s ; water loan £24 14s 7d ; general account £lll 3s lid. Mr S. Evans gave notice of motion that he would mov# at the special meeting- on Monday, 15th inst, that} the Boat'd take into its consideration matters relating to the Library. A, building permit was granted, on the application of Mr C. S,. Parker. The sanie.,-gen tleman was referred to the IJedrd’s regulations governing- 1 gE-Wsupply of water.
