The Times Published on Tuesday and Friday Afternoons.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 5, 1923. AN OPPORTUNITY.

WHY iio 1 a carnival week in Pukekohe during I,he forthcoming Show? There is time to organise a week of monster attractions, such as bowling and tennis lournamenls, athletic sports, etc. The evenings could be devoted to entertainments in die Show Grounds, which could be illuminated with electric lights or Japanese lanterns. Side shows could be induced to attend and the whole scheme made attractive enough to draw many thousands, of people to the town. Then it would be up to the local tradespeople to respond and run special features and displays in their shops and thus create a really fine impression of the value of Vukekohe as a shopping centre. Many towns and districts are developing this carnival week idea with great benefit, to' themselves, and Pukekohe, as a progressive town should look after its laurels. The idea, as given above does not cover one tenth of the field. What is really needed is a meeting of be called or energetic men and women, and sub-committees set up to. work up tlje different departments. The A. and P. Show would naturally benefit by a much larger attendance than formerly,; and the extra funds accruing could be usc|J in developing the Show, adding to the buildings, and beautifying the grounds. If someone will convene a meeting to deal with the possibilities of this suggestion we will assist through the columns of the Times to our, very utmost, believing it to be in i the. interests of the whole district.

"We nothing extenuate, nor aught set down in malice."
