MAIN SOUTH ROAD.
In the course of his report to the Papakura Town Board at its last meeting, the Rev. Wood said that during a discussion on “roads ’ at the Auckland Local Bodies’ Association conference, reference was made to the “misery” suffered by persons who had to motor over the Papakura section of the - Main South Road. At a later stage Jfof the meeting the Board decided, to J use forty yards of metal that W as . the trucks at the station in patcilingtl the north end, but it is perfectly clear* that the matter of re-laying this road will have to be faced in the near future, and to do that financial help will have to be forthcoming from some quarter. In view of the fact that all the road traffic from Auckland to the south passes over this road, the residents of Papakura cannot be expected to make and maintain it at their own entire cost. A well known man remarked to our representative the other day that Papakura ought to obtain authority for fixing toll gates. Whatever may be thought of such a suggestion it is certain the Papakura Town Board cannot do much without Government or other outside help.', tj
