Over thirty head of Friesian catt»e leffc Wellington recently for Australia, These cattle came from all parts of the Dominion and included a young cow which has just complet. ed a butter-fat record of 8401bs of fat, so that in two successive years she has given 16711bs of butiter-fat, a most remarkable achievement. |fhis cow was sold uy the Mjinawatu breeder, Mr H. R, Green., for the sum of 600 guineas to Messrs Henry Collins and Co., Ltd, of Lucerndale, South Australia, who have also paid the same breeder 600 guineas for a two year old heifer which at thpt age has given more 'than 70016 s of fat during he past season, The principal shippers from the. South Island were Messrs T .tH. Overton, of Lakeside, Canterbury, and Mr R, L. Stoddjirt, of Willowby, Canterbury. The consignment made by the* latter breeder included .he heifer which won the championship at the last Canterbury show,, a,nd which when tested as a two year olcL gave 6501 b of fat in the season. This heifer,, which was bred by Mr Overton, was sold by Mr Stodclart for S(A) guineas. The shipment which will be landed at Melbourne, is to be railed overland from that port to Adelaide. They were a beautiful lot of cattle, an should' continue to iackl prestige to the great name New Zealand Friesians have already made in Australia., Information has been received that a former large of New Zealand Friesians,, in Mr EGc Lloyd Jones, managing director of Messrs David Jones, Ltd., is again purchasing in New Zealand, and a consignment of heifers and a young stud. bul'V by the renowned sire Woodcrest Pietje Pontiac,, went forward to this breeder also, It is understood that ,a daughter of this bull already int Australia has completed a lec.ord of 10001 b of butter-:fat. This heifer was bred un New Zealand by Mr John Donalid, of Wanganui. The value ol : the three recent shipments of Friesians made to Australia is stated by Messrs Wright Stephenson and-, Co., Ltd,, to approximate a totaia of £BOOO. The export trade of dairy cattle will therefore be seen to be approaching big figures. Several more shipments are shortly to follow.
