OTAHUHU.
The committee in connection with the proposed carnival in aid of the Otahuhu Band met in the Borough Couucil Chambers on the 7th Novemerr last The cbfdr was occupied by Mr G. V. Peurse and there were also, present Messrs R. Johnston, Crowi Andrew, Bailey, Coop,. Carson., D ever ill, Eustace, Murdock, laylor, H. J Frearnleyv A. Phillips and Wells" (secretary). Mr Johnston proposed’ that this meeting extend its sympathy to the father and relatives of the late Mr Jas. Mansell, and that the secretary be asked to convey this motion by letter. The proposal was seconded by Mr Eustace and carried in silence, all those present standing. It was decided, that all members of the committee use their best endeavours tej bring' their wives pud lady friends to the next meeting. The chairman stated that Mr E. Shepherd had promised to donate a sum of money to the fund, and a motion was passed thanking him for same. The secretary stated that he had asked for and obtained the consent of the trustees of the Otahuhu Benevolent Society to hand over to this Carnival Committee a dinner service that had remained unclaimed from the Benevolent Society’s Carnival It was also decided to ask the permission o.f (the Mininster of Internal Affairs to hold rafftes in connection with the carnival. Mr Johnston suggested that the heifer promised by Mr E. Shepherd be made the subject of a guessing competition 'and! that a prize of £1 Is be offered to the person making the neai’est guess to tne correct l'ive weight. The suggestion was adopt, ed. The following were elected a sub-committee to have control of all raffles : Messrs Pearse, Carson, Phillips, Taylor and Wells The secretary stated that he had communicated with the Southdown Freezing Works tugof-wjar team re putting the “Williams (Tug of War Challenge Cup” for competition,, but as the team was not certain as to whether the cup conditions would permit them to do so if was decided to leave the matter over for the present. It was resolved to ask the various sub-committees to have their programmes fixed up by an early date so that the Publilcitv Committee could! start its advertising campaign The meeting then adjourned* to ‘-he 14th inst, - ' ?
