BIG SALE OF WOKK. EVENT OF ANNUAL IMPORTANCE Each year the function organised, by (the ' Presbyterian Church as a finale to twelve months continued effort to accumulate stores of saleable, attractive wares and goods, has gradually grown till it has assumed an important place in the social attractions of our town. The energetic band of workers responsible have this year eclipsed all previous successes, and have a magnificent arrav of varied and valuable aricles, in the clothing section there being a most beautiful lot of articles of equisite workmanship, whilst the other sections are well supplied with a most tempting display of goods. Sweets stalls, refreshments and produce Christmas tree for the children and other attractions, including music, will be provided. The date of the opening of this attractive sale of: work is Wednesday. November Bth. OPENING BOWLING GREEN. Bowlers in this .district should note that the official opening of the Tuakau Bowling Club’s green will take place to-morrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. The ceremony willi be performed by the member for Raglan, Mr R. F, Bollard. An open invitation is extended to members of bowling clubs in this dictrict. Members of the Pukekohe Club should roll up and assist the “infant” in making its opening day a huge success. PAINFUL ACCIDENT. Mr J. Sycamore, of Whangarata, well-known as a bacon curer, met with a very nasty accident on Smeed’s Road, Tuakau, recently. It appears he was riding a somewhat fresh horse, the animal rearing up and falling back on him, fracturing ■the peivfis bone. Some three hours after the time of the accident a little lad named W. Cossiboom happened to be driving some cows along the road and heard the cries and groans of Mr Sycamore, The lad became /frightened and proceeded to his home to give the alarm. In quick time Mr Sycamoore’s wife, his two daughters., Mrs C Taylor, Mrs Atkins (2), Mr Datson and Mr J. Fulton were summonded, and they had the unfortunate man removed on a stretcher. He was suffering terribly, and-upon being attended, to by Dr Roberts, was removed to the Hamilton Hospital, being accompanied there by Messrs J. Fulton and C Smeed. He is at present progressing as well as can be expected, but it will be some time before he is able to get about again, Mr Sycamore is well-known in Pukekohe especially by those who frequent the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company’s mart sales on Fridays. iHis many friends wish him a speedy recovery. Mr Sycamore was particularly clever with horses, and his latest e>.perle.nce was caused by a very vicious equine. GOVERNMENT GRANT. HARRISVILLE ROAD BRIDGE. Residents qf Tuakau will learn with great pleasure that an item appears on the list of supplementary votes for Harrisville road bridge work, £sOft £ for, £.
