■ ( The Mayor and members of the Otahuhu ’Borough Council made an inspection of the works and outfali of the Auckland Meat Company, and of the foreshore at Westfield on Monday last in company with Mr Marks,’ the managing director of the company. Mr Marks Itold Councillors that the company had spent over AIOOO recently on effecting improvements to the works from a hygienic point of view, but that they were prepared to carry out any further improvements that the Council could suggest. A very thorough inspection was made and it \is understood that the Councillors present will report to the Council, Mr R W. McVilley, General Manager of’Railways, and party paid a short official visit to Otahunu on about 9.50 aan. by the Thames Express. The Mayor, Mr Todd, on be■half of a number of residents, made la request that the train which at ■present leaves Otahuhu on Sunday ■mornings at 9.53 ,be altered so as to
■arrive in Auckland at 9 a m. m or[der that residents may take advantage of harbour excursions and attend church services, Mr McVilley stated that he would endeavour to arrange to have the alterations made in ithe timetable as an experiment for three months. At the end of that time the department would be in a position to judge from the traffic returns whether it would be advisable to make a permanent alteration in the timetable. An “A 1 Fresco’" fete in aiicl of the Holy Trinity Church will be held at the Parish HalL on Friday and Saturday, 3rd and 4th November. An attractive programme of sports and other items has been arranged and it is hoped the fete will be a great success. There will be a dance in connection \\<ith the fete on Friday evening and the music will be supplied by a well-known city orchestra, in which the Rev. Jaspar Caldex will be present at the fete on Saturday afternoon.
