A meeting- of the genera! committee in connection with the forthcoming- carnival in aid of the Otahuhu Municipal Brass Band was held in the Borough Council) Chambers, Otahuhu, on Thursday last. In the absence of the Mayor, owing to his being indisposed, _ Mr G. Pearse occupied the chair. " The ficers were appointed: Patrons,; the Rt Hon W .F Massey, Esq., P.C., M P.., and Sir F,. W. Lang, Kc. M.P. ; president, His Worship the Mayor of Otahuhu (Mr R. B Todd); organising secretary, Mr W- Wells; assistant secretary, Mr W. Tayolr; treasurer, Mr A. Carson ; 'executive committee, Messs G. Pearse (chairman), Carnachan, Murdock, Bailey, Morris, The following sub-committ‘ees were appointed : Publicity Committee. Cap. J, Wilson, Messrs F. J Andrew, J. Mclvor, J .Somers a'nd'.R J. Johnston (convener) ; Ground Committee, to be the various sub-.cornmittee conveners, namely, Messrs Carnachan, Boniface, Johnston, Brady and Wilson ; sub-committee in charge of boats for aquatic display, Messrs F. Lippiatt, H .J. Fearnley, S_ A. Fearnley, A Walker and (1\ Clements. Fire Brigade Cominittee, Captain J. Wilson and Firemen Eutace and McIvor, with power to add. to their number. Sub-committee for children’s events, Messrs R. Miller and E J. Finn. Sports Committee, Messrs Eustace, S. A. Fearnley, H. J. Fearnley, W. Lippiatt,, T. It was*'’decided to hold the Carnival and Fair on Brady’s beach on February 10th 1923, subject to the Hide and weather being suitable The following events were decided upon : Swimming, sports, fire brigade events, races for boys and girls, weight guessing, and a baby show.) Mjr J. Somers promised a sheep for the weight-guessing competition, and it was decided to ask Dr Ross and Dr Gladys Rowley to be the judges for the baby show. A recommendation was made to the executive committee that if time will permit a stockmen’s event and Highland and clog dancing be added to the programme. It was also decided to request Mr Wilson to try and arrange for a troop of entertainers to be present Mr Andrew promised! to provide a car for their conveyance if it could be arranged, and a, resolution \Vas passed thanking him for his generous offer.
The charge for admission to the carnival was fixed at Is, ail children undter the age of 15 to be admitted free, and the meeting then adjourned to Tuesday, October 24 th.
