The Times. Published on Tuesday and Friday Afternoons.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1922. TIME TO CALL A HALT.

THE oxtrem'ely offensive and grossly untrue .statements regarding the Times made by His Worship the Mayor at the Council meeting on Monday evening once again characterise him as totally unfitted for the. position of Mayor of this Borough. It is surprising that members of the Council should sit and listen to the stupid vapourings lie poured forth. The Mayor said that at his meeting in ilie Oddfellows' Halt lie did not - use the words “judged by results." We say that lie did; forty ratepayers say that he did; and no doubt dozens of others can truthfully say the same. But that is not the point we' are labouring at now. The Times can easily stand anything such a temperament can say against it, but it is not fitting that such tilings should be allowed to continue. His Worship should be aslced by the ratepayers !resign immediately. Even

if the Council have the right to elect a new Mayor for the remainder of their term, and did so, it would he preferable to these continual exhibitions of petty temper which are making Pukekohe the laughing slock of fly* Dominion. The Borough Council, instead of being spoken of with respect is now being characterised as “the local fun factory." Surely some strong action will be taken by ratepayers in the direction of demanding His Worship's immediate resignation.

"We nothing extenuate, nor aught set down in malice."
