BOWLING SEASON OPENED.
PUKEKOHE. CLUB S CEREMONY. There was a ilarge attendance of bowlers and their friends at the official opening of the Pukekohe club’s green on Saturday, in spite of the threatening climatic conditions. Owing to the recent rains the intention cif playing on the new* green on the opening day was abandoned, and it was decided to confine the play to. (the did green. Both greens and the croquet lawn are in splendid order and with the grounds rapidly being knocked Unto shape «the property will / present a fine spectacle in a very’ short whoile
Bunting was flown at various spots round the property, while the new dug flag, presented by Mrs F. Perkins held pride of place over the club’s pavilion.
Proceedings commenced with the rendering af the National Anthem. The president Mr Geo- H. Armstrong, was absent owing to a beravement in Bis family (his mother having passed away a day or two before) and 'the opening ceremony was ably performed by the vice-president Mr J. !H. Keith, who apologised for ended a welcome to the visiotors, and hoped the coming season would be a .very successful one. In the absence of Mrs Amrstrong, he called on Mrs Ke4th to throw the first “jack ” which she did to the accompaniment oif cheers and applause Mr Keith then opened the croquet lawn Mrs H. Stuart, the president, hitfling a ball through the first hoop, amidst applause. Play on the bowling green and croquet lawn was then commenced, and some enjoyable games were played. Afternoon tea, in the hands of a strong ladies’ committee was duly appreciated.
