JERSEY BREEDERS.
MEETING OF FRANKLIN BRANCH OF ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Auckland! Central Jersey Breeders’ Club, was held in the office of the Franklin A, and P. Association at 1.30 p.m. on Wednesday. the 11th October, 1922 * Tliere were about twenty members present. Also Mr E. D McLennan, of Papakurq, the president of ithe Js T .Z. Jersey Breeders’ Association, and Mr Missen. of (Hamilton, a member cf the Council were present. Some tone ago a letter was received from the Jersey Breeders’ Association, advising the Auckland Central Jersey Breeders’ Association to change ij-s name, as it was apt to lead to confusion in connection with the Auckland Metropolitan Club. Mr T. Pollock introduced Mr McLennan and Mr Missen. Mr McLennan, in addressing the meeting), stressed the pdjnt that the Jersey Breeders.’ Council was not trying to dictate to the dlub on this matter, but he thought it would be advantageous to the club to -have a name that was identical with its locality. and he sugges-ted the name of Franklin. Mr Missen also spoke in a similar way. After some more discussion, it was finally proposed by Mr Pollock and seconded by Mr Dell that they change the name of the Auckland Central Jersey Breeders’ Club to the Franklin Jersey Breeders’ Club. An amendment was proposed by Mr Wilkinson and seconded by Mr Le Baily. that this matter be held in abeyance until the annual meeting- This amendment was Host, and the motion was carried so that in tiho future this club will be known as the Franklin Jersey Club. this motion was carried Mr McLennan before leaving, addressed the meeting, and stated '.that the Jersey Association numbered 1076 members, and it was established 20 years ago,' the original membership then being 22 members. At /that time each member had to pay £4 towards the cost of having the first herd book printed. At the presefit time there are 13 400 males and 17 500 females registered. Laqt year 1220 transfers had been made. The Association found it necessary to reduce ,the subsidy of, clubs from £lO to £5 - on account* qf the extra, clubs formed- The Council' had also gone into the matter of a consolidated Herd Book, which woud cost £3OOO. To get an iad.a qf what support they woud have with this movement members were circularised, stating that the consolidated Hejrd Book would cost them £l2 each, and asking for their names. Only 40* repjied and they would want at least 250. the question was deferred. It would] cost £BOO to get the present yeaffs Herd Book printed. In conclusion. Mr McLennan thanked the members for the pleasure it gave him to be present at the and he said he would do all in his * power to help the club Mr Missen was also asked to a Jew words and on ..Using to ad-' dress the meeting he si essed that point that they shoi|ld do all in ‘heir power to bring before the public the good points qf the - Jersey. He stated it gave him gfreat pleasure. not only as a member of the Council, but as a member of a sister club to" be present. He stressed the importance of type and complained that quite a number of tree hulls were not up to the standard, and he advised the breeders to be very pairticular regarding type, and to have cattle in the pink of "condition for the sale. Mk* Pollock extended a hearty vote of thanks to both Mr McLennan and Mr Missen for coming to the meeting. This was carried by acclamation. In the discussion that fo|!:owed re having the herd book priced it was proposed by Mr J H., Sherrad and seconded by Mr Wilkinson that we recommend the Jersey Breeders’ Council to consider getting the herd books printed from volumes I to 10 inclusive This was carried, and concluded the business.
