BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING.. The Pukekohe met on Monday, when thet|e wgfe' present : The Mayor (&$ John Routly), Crs D. R. Hamilton,Tv. H, McGough. John Paterson, F. J. Mofrow./das* Kennedy. Thos Brownlee, the cleric (Mr J. F. Deane), the foreman (Mj? S. J, Clews). * Leave of absence was granted Qcg G. H. Armstrong and A. P. Daysh. Resident Health Inspector The District Health Office xchised that Inspector T. C. Thompson now; hacl his headquarters at Pukekohe, and would work his district from* Pukekohe.—Received, Testing Water Supply. The Assistant Medical Officer of Health advised that in accordance with the Council’s decision to have monthly bacteriological examinations made by the Health Department, of the Borough water supply,, the Department would give effect thereto commencing on Ist October, 1922. (Hie Council would be furnished w'jth the results of such examunajtions. —Received. Rubbish Tip. Mr P. Hogan, Edinburgh Street, wrote complaining about the rubbish tip at the end of Edinburgh Street. He pointed out that instead of tins only oeing deposited thereat, as was the Council’s intention onions, bags, horse ooilars, and such frke were being dumped. He also urged that a spring across the road be attended to. dr subsequent trouble would result. The writer also asked that provision be made for a platform at the rubbish dump irons which the rubbish could, be tipped. In the interests of the public he concluded the tip required attention —The Mayor stated that if the Council was going to deal with theRubbish, question, the one solution would be for the Council to have stated periods fop the collection of rubbish, and on these days the Councils teams * could cart* the rubbish away. A small charge for the cartage would be necessary.
The foreman suggested that a place be fenced off lor a tip at tho present site and, a gate with lock and key provided. Those who desired to use the tip would then have to come ( to the office for the key. Thereby some check would be kept on the rubbish carted! It appeared from the letter that the rubbish was tipped here, there and everywhere. The same' thing was experiencd at the old tip. People did! not assist keep the tip clean. In answer to'the Mayer the foreman said two teams, once a month, could) deal with the whole of the rubbish ,from the Borough.
„ The foreman further added, that the Council had promised not allow anything of an obnoxious nature to be dumped at the tip, According to the letter rubbish other than t*nswere being put at the (dump. After further discussion lit wag de-cided-’to insert a notice in the Times to the effect, that the Council would collect empty tins and sundry rubbish upon notice being given to the! office. No persons are to be al-A lowed to deposit tins at the tip* except the Council’s employees. The matter of making a charge was left fcn the hands ot the foreman. Itwas resolved that the Council’s employees have control of the whole of the Borough s rubbish. W|th regard to Mr Hogari’s letter it was agreed to reply that the Council was taking the - matter inhand,. |The foreman was instructed, to give attention to the present tip and have it cleaned up. The foreman was authorised tohave the tip fenced, gate erected and- * -padlocked. In the event of the public .dumping on the roadside prosecutions-. will result., Approach to Station. m The .PHime Minister, Rt. Hon. W-JJ F. Massey, wrjote with regard to the approach road to the Pukekohe Railway Station, and stated he would, personally confer with the Minister of Railways on the subject and. would reply after he had conferred with his colleagrue —lt was decidedto solicit the cooperation of the Franklin A, and P. Society and the Franklin County Council jn the . matter of haying the road' attendedto. Scoria. It was decided to place an order for 2000 yards qf good, scoria for necessary works. The uijgency of the early provision of 1000 yards is to be urged lupon the Railway Departmental officers. Swimming Baths. With regard to the construction swimming baths, the foreman vsaS instructed to obtain necessary engineering data, and to prepare specifications for the excavation work andthe deposition of spoil on Edinburgh Street. The town clerk was authorised to call tenders for the work, returnable at 4 p.m. on Monday, October 16th. King Street. The need of renovating King Street was urged by Or Patterson/ an.d inreply theretoj the Mayor stated that the foreman would attend to it in. a few days, It was evident to him. ths*t the street would have to be recoated. *■ West Road Path. In reply fco a question, the foreman, said the West Road footpath in the vicinity of Mr V. Morris’ residence, was ready to receive a dressing of shell. Victoria Street Pipe Laying. ; d aoiiiiuiuoQ s>{.TOA\.raißjW V Cr Kennedy drew attention to thcMj fact that for the last month had been lading in Victoria Street. He contended that tenders should be called for the trenching wdrk.—Reattend to. The Council then went into committee.
