BEAUTIFYING THE TOWN.
TREES IN HALL STREET. OBJECTION BY TELEGRAPH DEPARTMENT, REMOVAL REQUESTED, At last Mondays meeting of the Pukekohe Borqugh Council, the District Telegraph Engineer wrcite stating that he was advised that the Council had) or given permission, to plant trees under the telegraph lines on certain roads under the Council’s jurisdiction. He stated that much trouble and annoyance was beino- caused to the Department and. to asers af telephones, through trees being allowed to grow and interfere with the wires. He pointed out that under section 179 of the Post and Telegraph Amendment Act. 1910, the Department objected to the planting of such trees. He added that he would be glad to hear that the Council had taken steps to have the trees removed, and placed in other positions where interference with the wires of the Post and Telegraph Department would not result. Cr Patterson said that when the trees interfered 1 with the lines it would be quite time to talk. „ On the motion of the Mayor it was decided to reply pointing out. how ridicuously low the poles were in Hall Street. ffhe matter of protecting the trees unprotected was left an the hands of the foreman.
