PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE.

MEETING OF PAPAKURA EXECUTIVE

At a meeting of the above there were present : R,ev. W, Q. Wood (in the chailr) Dr Page and Messrs A. Willis, J. Rea J Mils* Markwicky J. Walker. C. J. 'Young, Milne, Richardsoni, Huckstep. Johnson. The business arising out of the /Town Board election was considered, the secretary .reporting that ithe Lea-, gue had been successful in returning four of the ticket of live., with Mr J. Walked at the head of, tne polk A total oif 954 votfcs were cast for the League’is candidates and 752 for the other candidates, A motion of congratulation was passed to the successful candidates, Messrs Walker, Young, Weir and Rev. W. C. Wood. I The president (Rev. W. C. Wood, was thanked for his address to the residents and for the clean and able manner in which he had explained 'the town’s finances. In acknowJedging the vote Mr Wood said! that some who attended the meeting, had .expressed the opinion that ne had made it “too hot.” Granted he hit hard, it was clean and the tfruth, (He (Mr Wood) had been asked by the League executive to deal with the town finance, and he had considered it his duty as president of the League to do so in a plain and'frank manner, so that the real position might be known /to the people, , Many had thanked him, and tne vote of the executive was a satisfaction to him. Those who had criticised him behind his back when they could and should have done so at the League meetinglie could well ignore. The president ,and Messrs Y'oung and Walker tendered their resignations as members ctf the executive, owing to their being members of the Town Board. A resolution of thanks to these gentlemen jfor their past services was carried

A special vote of thanks was given the president for his services in connection witih the .formation and Many of the members present expressed their regret that Mr J. Rea was not returned andi the hope was expressed that at a figure time Mr Rea would’ again offer his services.

The members of the League are to be called together on October sth to receive the resignation of the 1 president and to elect his successor,
