OTAHUHU.
The Otahuhu. Borough Council met in - the Council Chambers on Thursday last, the Mayor (Mr R. B. Todd) presiding. There were; also present Councillors Bradly, Clements, Hall Nicholls. Preston, Shgphed and Whiteley, Messrs Nicholson. Gribbin, Rogersoh and, Nicholson' wrote with regard to Mr E. Harding’s petition for the exclusion of his property from the Borough asking for ah' interview with the Council’s representatives. The matter was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee to interview Mr 'Harding’s solicitors. A further letter with regard to the same matter was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs. A tender was received from the N.Z. Saddlery Co. for .the supply of dog- collars collars for the year 1923 at 8d per collar* The 1 tender was accepted. Messrs Cory, Wright and Salmon wrote submitting particulars of various types of incinerators suitable for use in Borough. The letter was received, Messrs R. and W-. Hellaby, Ltd., wrote with regard to their application to be supplied with water by the Council. The letter stated) that the firm’s minimum requirements would be 20,000 to 25,000 gallons per working day and asked whether in view Off this* fact the Council could undertake to supply them. It was decided to reply that the Council could not gi-Vg a definite answer until the new reservoir was erected and the new machinery installed.
The Medical Officer of Health wrote forwarding plans of two types of incinerators suitable! for use in the Borough, and the matter was referred 1 ; fo the Water and, Drainage Committee for a report.
The Medical Officer of Health also wrot,e with 1 -regard to) monthly examinations' of the Borough water pointing out that the Council was liable for the quality of water supplied. The letter was received.
Mr F. E, Rryne, licensed surveyor, Otahuhu, wrote submitting a plan of a.proposed sub-division of Mr JR. Nichollsi ; property in Mangere R'OacJ, The plan was approved, and',, the Mayor and Town Clerk were appointed to f sign the same on behalf of the Council. Messrs Lee and Arlington wro-e pointing out the marked diminution in the quantity of .water charged to them since the installation of the new meter and applying for an adjustment off the account. The mat-ter'-was referred! to the Water and Drainage Committee for a report. * Mrs Ml Spear wrote asking to have the water supply extended to herV house Princess Street* and offering to do the necessary ditching and filling in if the’ request was agreed to. The matter was referred. to the Water and Drainage Committee for a report. Mrs M, Irvine wrote referring to the state of the footpath in Seddon Terrace and the mutter ( Was referred to ‘the Works Committee for a report. i PILLION riding: His Worship the Mayor stated that g, breach of the Borough pillion riding by-law had) been coiijtnitted on the Saturday previous to me meeting iq allow a test case to be brought as to the validity of the by-law. and that as previously arranged by the town clek after consultation with himself, the sergeant of police had not taken any action in order to leave the Council a (free hand :m the msjtter. The Mayor stated that the matter was in the Councils hands. If Councillors wished the Council could prosecute if not the Sergeant of police would no doubt do so in the ordinary way Councillor Whitelye proposed that the Council prosecute (the offenders andi that the matter be left to the Legal and Finance Committee with full power to act. (The motion was seconded by Councillor Clements and carried. ANTECEDENT LIABILITY LOAN. , The special or.d,er authorising the raising of the Borough Antecedent Liability Loan of £4850 was duly confirmed on the motion (if Councillor Hall, seconded by Councillor Brady. - A further formal resolution striking a special rate of 3-Bths Of a penny ih the* pound as security fOr the loan was ; passed, and the affixing of the seal to the necessary debentures was authorised. APPLICATIONS FOR POSITION OF FOREMAN, t . Thirty-three applications were received for the position of Borough foreman. This number was reduced to 11 by the deletion pf the least /suitable applicants, and) the Council then decided to adjourn to Monday, 2nd October, owing to the lateness of the hour.
