The opening of the Papakura Tennis Club cofurts took place last Saturday, In spite o$ the rather unpleasant day a large number of players and spectators turned out to mark rthe opening of the season. In performing the opening cdremony, Mr E, D. McLennan president of the club, outlined! the growth of tennis in Papakura. He spoke of the time, 4 Oyears ago when tennis was first started in Papakura, comparing tennis of that time with the game as i;t l?s played to-day. Hje' spoke of the great chances of the present club, with a membership of 70 In referriong to the state ifo the present carts, Mr McLennan saild he hoped that the club would take a lesson from the Beautifying Society and do their utmost to beautify the surroundings of the courts. He then called upon Miss Olive McLennan to hit the ball over the net. Games were ithen resumed and latel* on, tea was dispensed oy the lad/ies of the club.
