DISTRICT NEWS.
WAIAU PA. The recent .rains have greatly improved the pastures in this district particularly those near the river flats. (The output qf cream is steadily increasing on last year’s output. To cope with, this Mr Clarke has put on a 3-ton mqtor lorry, which means delivery of cream in half the time taken previously. 1 Further the convenience of this lorry is felt ,in that i$ often returns well laden with goods for the settlers. One thing which militates against the smooth running qf the lorry is however,, the bad places on the ynain creamery road To get over the difficulty fascines have had to be put in, and the motor Joiyry has been help up, on several mornings after a shower of rain. In three particular places on the creamery road] is this bad state noticeable. One just past ' the cb.urch. one near the old creamery sitq, and one down near Mr D. Clarjke’s place., The settlers .feel strongly that it is time some of their ratles should be spent on repairs to this road, particularly as the bulk of the .rates come frpm /this part of the district, It was promised when the loan was carried that something would be done out of the rates. Acting on this promise the settlers carried the loan. v - Great satisfaction is felt with the new management of thq Waiau Pa post office, and this should result in a big increase in the postal business 'transacted. Some astonishment was expressed by the sattlers at the ’recent request which appeared in the Times to the effect that the deputation which waiited upon the County Council should] have been in the direction of asking for a diversion of the loan money from a road which was little or seldom used to another road which they claimed would serve the whole district. It, is felt that a public meeting should be called todiscuss this matter fully quite apart from the Progressive League, particularly as the main creamery road is practically impassable for the mollor lorry to collect the settlers’ cream in the winter time.
