The Dumbarton Herald (Scotland) 1 has the following: “The memory of the “Old Contemptibles” at Mons, retreating step by step and fighting every inch of ground against _oveiwhelming Hun forces, is now jeereci at by the extremists, who were glad to shelter behind them during the war. In the Worker (June 1/th) a paragraph is quoted describing pigeon race from Mons to Newc is tie The Worker comments : ‘JThe pigeon is reckoned the swiftest of all moving things, but fo'r many years its reputation has been overshadowed by the magnificent speed achieved by the British Army in evacuating Mons in 1914. The pigeons, we understand, are delighted at this opportunity to regain the championship.”’
