COOL CHEEK.

(To the Editor). Sir, —Permit me space in your valuable columns to strongly protest against the recent action of one of ttie collectors for the Queen Carnival the worthiness of the object I do not question. At the Inst social meeting of The Pukekohe Orphans' Club, the programme was interrupted without any warning- whatsoever by the entry of a lady, the wife of a prominent local citizen (who. by the way is not a member of the club for reasons best known to himself, but possibly known to others) selling tickets for the carnival. Hatt the lady asked permission of the executive her request would have been instantly declined, and her action in overlooking ttiat ordinary courtesy, is, to say the least, regrettable. To make matters worse, the club had with them a number of distinguished visitors from Auckland and other towns, and these brethren

shared the fate of their local brethren in being pestered to buy tickets. The one consoling feature in that aspect of the question is that the.visitors learned the name of the collector, and will no doubt not be backward in expressing their views of the intruder outside this town. Considering •that most, if not all, of the members of the club have contributed to the funds of the above carnival, and are likely to do so until the campaign is. closed, it is a pity that they should not be allowed to gather 'together for a few hours one evening la (fortnight without an interruption sort. In thanking you. Sir, for publishing; this letter, I may express the wish that same will be the means of preventing a repitition of any similar activities on the part of our local collecting enthusiasts. —1 am, etc-., ORPHANDOM.
