OTAHUHU.
A euchre and dance social in aid of the Otahuhu Municipal Brass' Band was held in the Otahuhu Public Hall on Friday last under the management of a committee of the following ladies, vtz. Misses Stephens, Moffitt (2), Rule, and Webber. The music, was suppllied by Mrs F. J. Andrew (piano), and Messrs J T, Ayers (cornet) and C. Arlington (violin), and the floor was in excellent condition for dancing. Messrs Chris. Deveril! and Wm. Taylor acted as MO.’s and Mr Ewan Harper took charge of the euchre. During the evening, a balloon dancing competition was held the vM.nners being Miss Webber and Mr Morgan. The winners of the progressive euchre tournament were Miss Par felly and Mr -.Fitzgerald, - Dancing was kept up until.midnight and the evening proved a thorough success.
On Saturday last representatives of the Auckland Pillion Riding Committee headed by Mr R. E. Charnptaloup i,visited Otahuhu for the purpose of comnlltting a breach of the Borough by-law forbidding pillion riding with a view to a test case as to the validity of the by-lav?. Large numbers of motor cyclists were present and Mr A. J. Glanville, of Panmure and Mr J. Marmont, of Mount Roskil'i committed the breach 0/1 which the test case .will be brought by riding a short distance down the Great South Road, It is understood that the case wj.ll be heard shortly at the Auckland) Police Court, After the necessary paiticulars had been given to the town clerk the paity proceeded on their way.
During the month of August five building permits for buildings of a total value of £465 were issued by the Otahuhu Borough Council. Nine drainage and plumbing, permits for work to the /value cif £53 were also issued during- the period. Mr A.. C. Hare the contracttor for he erection of the cottage to be built in Portage Road for the Otahuhu Borough Council, is losing no time in carrying out his contract. Already all the excavation work is completed and a large portion of the timber is on the ground. Judging from the plans the c o ttage when completed, should be a credit to the Portage Road end of the Borough.
