Dear Sir, —With further reference to the lette'r of the 7th ingtantf signed by yourself and eight other resipf Pukekohe concerning the petition for a re-valuation of the Borough of Pukekohe : I am now advised by the Commissioner of Taxes that !the position with regal’d to the land! tax assessments is as follows: The re-valudtion qf the’ Borough was made and the roll! altered on the 31st March 1922; and I understand from the Valuation Department that the Assessment Court sat and dealt with ithe objections and the valuations came into Iforce on the 31st March, 1922„ for the purposes of land tax, and tax for 1922-23 wlill be assessed and charged on such valuations, Any alterations now made consequent on a re-valuation qf the Borough in whole or part will not be o per alive, unltil the 31st March, 1923, and the lolls and land tax assessments for 1923-24 will be amended in accordance with such alterations. As the law stamds dfc present therefore land tax for the current year must be assessed and levied o i; the existing valuations appearing on f.he Doll on the 31st March, 1922. From this you will notice that the 11 aw does ncjt permit of the Commissioner of Taxes complying with your request, and I iregrdt that I am unable to send! you a more satisfactory reply.—Yours (faithfully, W.
