A FINE HERD AVERAGE.
The average return of 393!bs of but|:er-»fat per cow for 28 cows was giv.eln for the season just closed by a herd owned by Mr H. J. Mclntosh, bf Motumaoho. Mjr Mclntosh has just received his last return from the manger of the Norfolk Herd-testing Association, and the figures on tills return tally with' those supplied by the manager of the, Norfolk cheese factory, Details of the individual performances of the 28 cows /re. ferred >:o are as follows (days milked and lbs fat, in parenthesis, being shown respectively) :-—334, 512 ; 331, 510 ; 334, 485 ; 303, 485; 318, 479 ; 312 v 464; 316, 458; 315, 450; 312 444; 320, 435; 319, 431; 3.15,, 430; 283 410 ; 272, 398 ; 304, 377 ; 332, 377 ; 301, 365 ; 334, 360 •; 324, 353 ; 292. 340 ; 312, 342; 302, 334; 315, 326 ; 308, 23,; 226, 315; 212, 304; 312. 272; 293, 250. The 28 cows gave 11,061 ibs of buttqr-fat for the season. Two of them were heifers. One gave 342 lbs of butter-fat on 312 .days, and the other gave 3341bs o ; f butter-fat on 302 days, The herd is composed of Jersey cross animate, and its fine record is the result o:f sysi emaflic breeding and culling,—Star, Morrinsville.
