PURGING THE ROLLS.
The main rolls for the forthcoming Parliamentary election have been printed. One of the duties of the registrar is Ito purge the boll, and from what we can gather the purging has been very drastic. Possibly the principle that it is easier and safer to put on a name at the last moment than to remove one has been followed, When it is all summed up it is not much to ask an elector to see that his name is on the roll. It is not a great psice to pay for the privilege of democratic government. Yet people have become so accustomed to having things done for them, to having their names placed on the rolls, that they rarely take the trouble of remembering that the responsibility rests on itheir shoulders. It is particularly so when the elector has been a resident of a district for a considerable time, and! has voted on many occasions. He does not -eixpect his name to be removed and takes it as a mattes- of course thdit he is on the roll. But such may not be the case. It would be roll of their electorate and make sure well .Iff all electors would inspect the their names are on. They can be seen at all post offices. We can only repeat: /Take nothing for granted ; satisfy yourself that you ai*e on the roll
