I FRANKLIN 14. V. AUCKLAND 11. ■ The Auckland Junior Representa- ■ live football team journeyed to Tuaka* on Saturday, to meet the Franklin Representatives. The visitors were met by officials of the F.R.U., shown cjjfc'r the Tuikau factory, and taken for a dmte to the Waikato River. They dinejlfat Wuakau Hotel, where host Taylsfr provided an appetising repast. Thfey then met the Franklin team, aiujl a good game was witnessed. The home team won by 1 i points to 11. The Aucklanders indulged in some fine passing bouts, their combination being shown to advantage. The Franklin forwards more than held their | own, and were instrumental in taking the ball close to Auckland’s line. Tries for the winners were scored by Les. Cathcart (2), S. Cronin, and Rosy Smeed, one of which was converted by G. Wilson. For Auckland Keary scored two tries, and Austin one — of, which, was converted. Mr Taylor refereed. ' The visitors were entertained at tea, after which they departed for * home, voting the day’s outing thor--1 oughly enjoyable. FRANKLIN V. W AIK ARE. The Franklin team to meet Waikare to-morrow at Tuakau will he selected from the following: Markham, Balme, Wray (2), Wilson (2), Dromgool (3), Cathcart (2), Smeed (2), Cronin, Morris, SearelF, Matthews, Wright Bilkey, Revell, Rhodes, R'oxborough, GlLeary, Murray. *On September 16th, the Franklin 1 team journeys to Hamilton to meet the Hamilton representatives, MATCH AT PAPAKURA. | MANUKAU <B, V. PUKEKOHE 0. The Pukekohe representatives journeyed to Papakura last Saturday to play the Manukau representatives, .and after rather a hard fought game the visitors, were beaten by eight points to nil. Neither teams played up to previous form. Mr Corrin controlled the game.
The players were afterwards entertained at luncheon at Ryan’s Hotel. Mr McKenzie, president of the Manukau Rugby pinion. welcomed the vis- . itors, and complimented them on their game. Mr Pollock thanked them for i, their hospitality on behalf of the Pui kekohe Rugby Union. \ , NEXT SATURDAY’S GAMES. PRIMARY SCHOOLS MATCH.
A team of Franklin schoolboys tt journeyed to Auckland on Saturday, 2nd inst., to pfay a return match with a team selected from the Auckland Primary Schools. The team was met at the Auckland railway station by Messrs Beasley and Smith, members of the Auckland Primary Schools Rugby Union executive. After a/visit to the wharves, the Albert Park, and the Art Gallery, the team with the accompanying entourage were conducted to the RusliMunro Cabaret, in Newton, where they partook of a sumptuous ' luncheon, under the hospitality of Messrs Beasley and Smith. After the match the team were again treated to. refreshments. jr . Mr Beasley, in welcoming the learn '* po Auckland, expressed the hope that the match would lend to make l’or the improvement of football and that the boys would thoroughly enjoy themselves. Messrs Patterson and Aliison replied on behalf of the Franklin Primary Schools. jjpajj match, which was put on as i ’;,o:nc of the curtain-raisers to the mulch, commenced at i 2.20 p.m. The game was very (•venli contesled, the Franklin forwards, by playing a good consistent game, were able to a very great extent, to counter-balance the superioritf o f'rthe Auckland backs. The Franklin backs lacked combination. Baynes, of the Auckland team, was a very dangerous boy, and came very near to scoring several times. He polled a goal very smartly, having secured from a weak kick by a Franklin player. Finer scored a try for Auckland, % while A. Bullock scored a try for Franklin, and A.
