UNITY IN DAIRY MATTERS.
At the present momentf. suppliers throughout Franklin to the New Zealand Co-openative Dairy Co., feel aggrieved. Their bonus cheques were a pittance* and many have bought goods on the understanding that payment would be made out of bonus cheques. So things go on and suppliers feel in an exasperated condition! about the whole position. But shrewd business men who understand mass psychology are quick to take advantage of a situation sometimes. The local suppliers being in the condition of mind necessary to work a coup, are, we understand, being made, nice little offers to sever their allegiance to the big concern. At leas* two othtir companies have their eyes on Franklin, and the are'n traversed includes VVaiau Pa, Patumahoe, Mauku, Bombay, and Pukekohe East. But we would strop:;**- urge snpo ier» in the districts named to consider weh before taking any steps which might ultimately tend t.o the total disruption of one of the most magnificently organised businesses in the Dominion Times might pinch just now, and the company may seem to be . .r h-w] on its suppliers, but what of the future. As soon as things return tio normal in the butter markets of the world, what will
happen Uier;, simp i y> thtlt , he b est e Q ul PP e amd. best organised comP ar *y mus't certainly be in a far better position than smaller competitors. Unity is strength, applies particularly to the dairying industry of this Dominion. Small, isolated groups of farmers cannot expect to manufacture and market butter one half as efficiently as (a big concern with the capital to put in modren manufacturing plants and wfith the knowledge of the ups and downs of the world’s markets at its finger' ends. 'Far better to say to the directors of the big concern that if a guarantee is given that conditions will be bettered within a stated time we, as suppliers, are prepared to stand by you loyally. If no better prospect is out it may be time then to consider breaking »iway. Remember, it is sometime's fatal to attempt to change horses in the middle of a stream.
