PUKEKOHE TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL.
BOARD OF MANAGERS MEET. * The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board of Managers was beldam the school on Tuesday last, Mr F. Perkins being in the chair. The@& wife present:' Mrs Perkins, Messrs-, Brown, Cooper Crosbie, Johns row, Patterson, Jas. Roulston* Wa-rd ; Wyatt, and the secretary M> W. F. Munro. Junior High School. A circular from the Education Department on the proposed establishment of Junior High Schools suitable places .in New Zealand was received. The secretary explained that if the Junior High School sys- . tern was successful, it would raise * the minimum sflandaird of education (throughout New Zealand,* and allow vance of the usual commencement the post-primary course to be coraof the secondary or technical midneed at a date two years in adcourse. If the Technical High School in Pukekohe became a Junior High School boys and gilds of Standards V and VI from the surroundingschools would be eligible for atten_ dance. |Xhe question of Safeguarding the Status and salaries of the primary schools affected would require consideration; likewise the facilities for bringing in pupiils from the out posits of the country. Having regard to the ceufnal position cf Pukekohe lying between Auckland and Hamilton, the Board expressed; its approval of the suitability of Pukekohe as a suitable site for Ithe, establishment of a Junior High School. Mr Brown moved and Mr Ward seconded, that the Education Department be advised accordingly, and a sub -committee, consisting of Messrs Brown, Ward, Perkins. Patterson, .and the Director was appointed to gather the necessary economic and educational statistics and draft a reply to the circular. Post Box. A letter was received from M& Foster, of Mk.uku. pointing out the suitability of having a post box eir/ ectsd in f ront of the school. ' The seconded, that application be ma&e to the Postmaster for the box. — Carried. Caretaker and Assistant Sec. The mailt e l * - of the caretaker’s wages w'as adjusted, ‘and Miss Lear was appointed assistant to the secretary. Ground Improvement. The area of ground in front; of ploughed preparatory to sowing down, in grass. A hedge of Oisaria Forstefri has been planted. Ballot for Retiring N!emk>s, Wolrd has been received from the secretary of ithe Auckland Education Board that a ballot of four retiring members (eligible fck ire-election) i must he held. Mrs A- Perkins, and Messrs D. Fulton, J. W- Johns and J. E, W.ard retire. Gi«. Mr G. Pul ham kindly presented the school with a quadrant ih &x----ceUe- order, and a book on navigation. belonging formerly to Captain Pulliam. one-time master manner under the East Indfo. Company, which ceased Vs operations in 1858. Paddy’s Market. The. Director lepckted that all the pupils and teachers were hard for 'the forthcoming and Paddy’s Msjrktf, the proceeds. 0 f which are to be sat aside for a Hostel Fund. The Board of Managers expressed their willingness to assist a work which not only provided financial aid for the school, but which utilised the talents and social tendencies of the scholars to good purpose.
