THE “DOESN'T CARE" GIRL.
THINGS SHE LEAVES UNDONE. (By Qlairi Cecil.,) There is an qltl proverb, “It’s the little foxes that spoil the Vine/’ and it is the little things the “doesn’t care” girl leaves undone that make her so trying to everyone else. If you happen to go into her room just after she has left it, you will probably find every chair filled with various articles of attire, while every wehe re else things will be thrown higgedly-piggledy—anyhow. Sitting rooms she has occopied arc in much the same condition; table cloths awry, books, music, or sewing materials scatered all over the place. This carelessness doesn’t worry her in the slightest, but it gets on the nerves of others. She generally has an idea that it is absurd to be fussy about wha't to her are trivial detdils. But are they so unimportant ? What sort of a house will hers be when she has one of her own ? What kind of a housewife and mother will she make if she is going to be slipshod and untidy all her life ? She will surround herself with a fringe of discomfort wherever she goes If she cannot keep her corner of the world in an orderly way she will probably disgust her husband and tempt him to spend his time elesewhere. •Another thing the “doesn’t care” girl is apt to be just as careless about* and that is her personal apIf there is anything that appeals to the average man it is a well-turn-ed-out woman. He loves one who is trim and tidy
from Head to heal—one it is a pleasure to take out anywhere. Yet many girls are slovenly in' the way they wear their clothes -careless about the dressing- of their hair and 1 the tilt of their shoes. Those little details of dress and toilet that count for so much they neglect entirely.: Some don’t bother a button how they look .in the house as long as no stranger is about. They lack self-respect. A slipshod untidy girl cannot possess it. And no girl can win the admiration of the other sex unless she is self-respecting. When she meets a man he expects her to be natty, neat," and smart. He will seldom overlook laxity in her persona] appearance. She may think he doesn’t notice the defects and omissions of her turn-out, but nine times out of ten he does. So don’t imagine that not caring doesn’t matter. But this careless attitude can be conquered With a little strength of will and self-conrol. Still, it doesn’t do to leave it until womanhood is reached. Bad habits llong indulged in get such a hold on one that they are exceeding--1 y difficult and sometimes quite impossible to cure.
