FOOTBALL. (Own Corresponclent.) PAPAKURA V. DRURY SENIORS. This match took pl'ace at- Drury and was witnessed by a good crowd.. The teams were vary evenly matched. During the first quarter both displayed plenty of crash, but no score was. registered by either side. In the second quarter Papakura having the assistance* of the wind seemed (to have the better of matters. From a passing rush Dickey scored for Papakura but the kick tailed. At half time the score was Papakura 3; Drury 0. The third quarter was very even, Wallace Bremner scored fer Drury but the try was not converted. Tom Dickey marked' in a good position ancl landed a line goal, Papakura led by three points. In the last quarter Anderson scored tor Papakura, but> the kick failed. Papakura won by 9 points to three. The game was controlled by Mr Houghton, who gave satisfaction to both sides. PAPAKURA V, DRURY JUNIORS. This game was played in a very high wind and before, a large crowd. Drury kicked off with the wind and took play well into Papnkura’s territory, As the -result of n forward rush Drury crossed Papnkura’s line, the try being converted!. With the change,of ends Papakura had the beu't of the play, Fahey scoring a good try which was not converted. The third quarter was even and there, was no score. In the ’last, quartet'.' Papakura’s second try was the result of good p?‘ay by Wood (captain of the team) Stewart picking up the ball from a llocse rush and scoring between the posits. Papakura thus won by 6 points to 5. PAPAKUKA BOYS' BRASS BAND.
(Own Corresponden ! Last Thursday evening' the ony.-, Brass Band gave a private evening in the Parish Hall. There was a fair attendance. Tne band rendered a j number of selections which were ap- j predated,. The chairman (Rev. Vv. C | Wood) complimented the members on , their progress and said thee has j done extremely well considering none had been learning more than ■') , months. Mr Fell was a'so cor.gratu-' lated on. the progress shown by .the j pupds. Mr Fell 1 thanked the neop.e for their support and honed, he would be able to foster the band to lie one of the best of its hind. Mi- C. C. Tuely said that one of the essential things a town needed was a band. He. remarked every town of . any size had a band an if Papak-ura did not want to be behind the times. The difficulties with which the band had! to contend with were emphasised. Mr J. Cummins thanked the people on behalf of the band ior , 'their support and thanked the par- j ents for allowing their boys to become members. Mr S. Evans, on behalf of the Town Board, sax! that if the; e was anything the Board could j do if .would help the band along, j They would! be pleased to do them j utmost. He wished the band every J success in the future. ! The Progressive League ofTei ed all j the profits that may be derived from ; Ihe League’s concert held on fhuis- ; day and at which the band played selections towards the band fund.
