GRAND 1.0.0 F. BALL
The grand ball held under the auspices of the Lodges Excelsior No. 70 and Bethesda No. 24, took place in the Strand Theatre on Thursdav of last week and “ * was an unqualified success from every podnt of view. The interior of the hall was most brilliantly decorated. From the ceiling was suspended three clusters of coloured streamers while the proscenium was draped with nikau palms. NtfwU palms and coloured clusters of streamers also decorated the walls, the whole presenting a pleasing spectacle, and those who had charge of' > the decorations are deserving of praise for their sense of originality and thef.r taste of beaut. T . The floor, although it received a special preparation was in fair order only. Music was supplied by Lillis’ orchestra, consisting of five instruments, white exjt-ras were played by Misses Duncan, Ryan, Mr and Mrs Harriman and Mr Cassidy. The duties of M’s.C. were efficiently discharged by Bros. N. Stuart, FJ. Duncan, J. Taylor and W. J. Short. The attendance was large, although it did not reach last year’s record. Visitors were present fromPapakura, aWiuku,, Tuakau and surrounding districts. The grand) march was led by N.G.Bro. Fred Duncan, of the Excelsior Lodge, No. 70, and N.G. S’Nter Jv.y of the Bethesda Lodge.. No.. 24, followed by P.G. Bro. J. Schlaepfer and V.G. Sister B. Kennedy, and the remainder of those present. The dresses worn by the ladies were very becoming some of the gowns being exquisite, revealing the fact that special pains had been gone to in their preparation. The beautiful decorations and the Sight presented by the brilliance of the dresses worn by the fair sex was very fine indeed. A sumptuous sijt down supper was set cn a huge marquee on the vacant section adjoining the theatre. Herein large tables beautifully decorated contained, many nice things-, to which the trippers of the light fantastic d k d ample justice. The supper was delicious thanks to the efforts of an energetic ladies’ committee, ,who spared no effort in its prepara The success of the ball is due very large measure to the work of 'the secretary,. Bro. F. J. Brown, and also to the work of his committee, whose one object was to make the 1922 function a huge success. Their objeqfc was achieved in no small manner. The officials are deserving of a word of praise for the way thefunction was controlled, not theSlightest hitch occurring throughout.
