DISTRICT NEWS.

SKERCER. The second of a series .of progressive euchie and dance socials, and the first of the championship matches promoed by the local school committee, was held in the Town Hall on Friday evening last, commencing at 8 o’clock. These evenJngs are to be held at regular intervals during the winter months, and judging by the gathering on this occasion much interest is being' shown and some very successful evenings should eventuate. The championship prize for the ladies is a lovely fancy' cusion„ presented by Mrs W, H, Olive!! - , the gent’s prize being a handsome dressing case, presented by Mr Edwards, headmaster. Besides! the usual prizes for the even jug’s play, those presented for the championship will be awarded at 'the eridl of the series Ito the respective lady and gent who have won the most games throughout the season. On Friday evening fifteen tables were equired; to seat all the competitors, amongst whom were several Visitors from the surrounding districts. The play generally'- was of a high-cass order and many of the g'ames were closely contested. The prizes for vthe evening’s play were a picture (ladies) and a leather wallet (gents). The ladies’ prize was won by Mrs Horan. Messrs Kqily, Aylett and Clare tied for the gent’s prize. Finally Mr Kelly received the wallet. When the play was at ar. end, supper, provided by the ladies, was; served,, after which the rest of (the evening was given to dancing The floor, was, as usual, in excellent order. The music was ‘-upplied by' Mi’s? Ca;swell. Miss Arbuckle and! Mr Bert Jones. Mr Ken Lockie carried ou|t the dot Ms of M.C. in an efficient manner.
