SHEEP DOG TRIALS.
PROVINCIAL SHIELD COfttFETITION. WON BY MARTIN MACKEY. The Slice]) Dog Trials held underthe auspices of the Franklin A and P. Society and in conjunction with the third Winter Show, took place on Thursday and proved the principal attraction of the day. Forty-two dogs, competed and competition was vety keen. The dogs on the whole worked exceptionally well and were a credit ' to their owners.) The judge, Mr fT. Martin, of Rototuna, near Hamilton, referred in glowing terms to the splednid work, which lie emphasised was a great credit. He commented favourably on the dog owned by Mr S. Pratt in the short head class, which he stated had hard luck in striking one bad sheet). The dog worked exceptionally well a*d never made a mistake. The erratic sheep were the cause of the dog losing the competition.

Mr McNaughton’s dogs worked with wonderful combination and he had rather an easy 7 vicotry.
