GLENBRGOK ROADS
COMPREHENSIVE LOAN SCHEME. TO BE SUBMITTED TO RATEPAYERS.. At the last meeting of the Franklin County Council a deputation consisting of Messrs Haycock and Hodgkinson, representing the Waiuku Ratepayers’ Association, waited on the Council with reference to 'certain roads about Glenbrook. Mr Hedgin' nson said the Glenbrcok Hall road had been a'bone of contention for a number of years past. Last winter, he sated, the road wentto pieces and unless something was done to-it scon it would go to pieces again. He also wanted to know if the piece of unmetalled road from Glenbrook station to the Ti Ti corner, the main outlet to Pukekohe, could bo all ended to. . There was a stretch ..of about 50 chains. lie pointed out that most of the people
would be prepared to rate themselves lightly for the purpose of raising a loan to do the work. The road was very bad in the winter months. Mr Haycock also impressed the urgency of the metalling of the road. He contended it was high time something was dent'. The Glenbrook people not only wanted it done so they could get out, but the Puni people also desired it metalled so they could get to the railway station. He asked that the road should be formed out of rates 1 .
The chairman said it was a main road, and he agreed that something should he done. The traffic on the road would increase as Puni people would use it to get to /the Glenbrook station, and for this reason he thought they should he included to pay for~.it Ci- Reid also agreed that the road badly needed attention. It was quite
right what the deputation had stated, it being their only outlet to Pukekohe In winter they had to go ithrough Waiuku to get to Pukekohe, a very found about route.
Cr Cuff said he favoured the comprehensive'loan scheme. The opposition, he understood, came from the Glenbrcok end of the district.
Mr Hodgkin.son, referring to the question of a loan, said in his opinion thdre was no chance of it being carried
Cr Reid said that if the comprehensive loan was carried they could expend so much of -it each year, similar-to what was being done at Ivarnka ; the most urgent work could be put in hand first, Tire chairman said if the loan was carried he would undertake to see that the road in question was attended to right away. It was eventually decided to put the -question of a lean before the ratepayers at once. The clerk, engineer, Crs Cuff and Hold are tOy.confer with the ratepayers on the matter immeointely. With reference to 'Kswhiai Road, the subject of a petition, Cr Reid said this needed attention, especially the hill. The engineer was ins.tiuc'c d to inspect the road and lay off some work which is to be put in hand early in. the- spring. It was pointed, out that the land abutting .on to this road, which was described as a track through fern, was occupied by returned soldiers. They had practically no access at,all. Cr Mel 1 sop said these men were doing exceptionally good work improving the land, and they deserved all ( *ns i del a lion possible.
