WAIUKU ATHLETIC SPORTS CLUB.

The annual meeting was held in the Temperance Hall on Thursday evening, March 30th, at S p.m.. The president (Mr C. Thrana) presided, and a very good muster attended. The minutes of the previous annual meeting were read and confirmed, the balance sheet was presented and a substantial credit at the bank, due to the. manner donations, entries and members had responded to the appeal of sports in the district. The election of officers took place, and resulted in the following being unanintpusly elected for the ensuing year :—Patron, J. D. Chalmers , president, C. M. Thrana, vice-presidents, L. Dunn, W. McEwen, E. Burt, W. Kemp, T. Miller, H. O. Mellsop; secretary, G. Swain; assistant secretary, G. Mearns; general committee, with power to add, H. Willson, T. Hair, F. Millar, J. McNaughton, J. Miller, T. McCarthy, A. Canham, 'P. Tong, G. Farrelly, J. Hone; jun., Miller, E. L. Williams, H. Bladder, H. Langton, 0. Johnston, H. Miller, M. Butler ; starter, Mr M. Butler; handicapper, Mr C. Morrison (official) Te Aroha local hand'L cappers, AJ' Christiansen, T. Hair; timekeepers, C Mol’oy A. Canham ' judges, R. T. Reid, Father Skinrie A. Christiansen ; .auditor, Mr C. Cooke..

Mr H. 0. Mellsop came forward with a very generous offer to lease the ground used last meeting by the Athletic Club, and.it was decided to call the new committee together at an eariy date to talk over the business in connection with taking over the lease, as the spot is an (ideal one for sports and picnics, plenty of shelter being avai?,able, and also the making of a very good tract, in fact one of the finest can be made for a very little outlay, that would entice best runners in the Dominion, and we hope to have the support of other cjubs to help secure jfhis ideal' spot. An invitation had been sent to secretaries and members of outlying districts to attend the meeting, but evidently they are not as keen as the Waiuku hoys are on the matter, as very few put in an appearance. Perhaps the weather and not being a moonlight night had something to do Wfith it, but many good points and suggestions could he discussed to the mutual benefit of all if meetings could; he held every two dr/ three months and delegates from all sports clubs attend same.

The membership fee has been fixed a 3 five ' shilling's, and the secretary will 1 be pleased to receive as many names as possible, so that the Waiuku Sports Club wiJl be 'able to put on a better programme this year than last It must be very gratifying' to the general public to know thatWaiuku and surrounding districts holds a very high place in the sporting * crowds of the Auckland. province, both for its clean sport and the amount of prize money given, and may we maintain this reputation is the voice of the Waiuku Athletic Sports Club. The balance sheet is attached, and will no doubt be looked into with great interest. The secretary was away at Te Anoha on important business connected with the Sports Club, and the assistant secretary (G. Mearns) very ably filled the position that evening.
