TENNIS NOTES.

(By “Half Volley.”)

There has been considerable .agitation in the County recently with regard to the holding of a tennis tournament at Easter on the Pukekohe Club courts, to be confined to players belonging to clubs in the Franklin County. Up to now nothing has been done in the matter, everyone seemingly waiting for someone else to take up the matter. It is suggested that .the programme consist of the following events): Men’s and ladies’ singles and doubles championships, combined handicaps, and boy’s and girl’s (under 20) championships, and that the tournament take place on the 14th, 15th 17th 'and 18th April. A certain number of entries will be required to cover expenses such as balls, advertising ,etc., and and to make it worth while to employ a caterer for lunches and afternoon tea. One or two local' players have agreed to help a committee, and it is hopedf that players from other clubs will forward their names to the Editor (in the first instance) with a definite promise of support in the way of entries. A fee for entry will have to be charged to cover Will secretaries of clubs bustle their members into something like keenness, provide competitions and matches in their own clubs, and with other clubs, and generally make sure of a large list of entries. Perhaps someone of public spirit would like to donate a cup or some similar trophy to the club gaining most points in th championship events. Suggestions for the tournament will be appreciated ; but what will be more appreciated still will be the appearance of four or five men and ladies determined to carry 1 the tournament to a successful conclusion and make it an annual fixture.
